The cost of AA environmentalism

I was checking my blog this morning and saw this:

marco:

We’ve been burning through AA batteries like crazy recently: our new camera flashes use 4 each, and we started using electric toothbrushes that use 2 each. Then there’s remote controls, Wiimotes, and just about everything else in the universe that runs on AAs.

I’ve been using those generic yellow IKEA batteries that usually run $1 for a 10-pack. They’re not great, but you definitely get your money’s worth. It’s pretty horrible to dispose of that many batteries, though, so I ordered some good NiMH AA rechargeables from Amazon today.

Total cost for 20 quality NiMH AAs (2500mAH) and a decent charger: $82.43. (I know you can get cheaper ones, but even with no-names, you’re probably spending at least $60 for 20 batteries that are really 2500 mAH and a charger that doesn’t suck.)

Had I spent that same amount on IKEA batteries, I’d have over 800 of them. And I’d never have to worry about whether they’re charged.

Now I am not saying Marco’s point isn’t vaid but think of this, what if we were to charge the proper amount for all batteries. The enviormentaly unsound ones would cost more and the rechargeables would cost less. Which would you buy? I know I would probally buy the rechargeables. Think about that!

This is a Tripe Baconator from Wendy’s! It was gross but I thought I would share it with you! Here are the stats: 18 pieces of bacon, 6 patties, 12 slices of cheese, with a whole bunch of ketchup…ENJOY!

recording.

Over the past weekend I had the absolute pleasure of recording Nate Liebel (DayWars.tumblr.com). He has some excellent music written and I plan on posting a small sample some time latter this week once I start mixing. What was amazing is that the same computer I check my email on,  surf the web and basically do everything on could record with just a little usb device. Now I went a little over board and used 2 mics and a direct line in for Nate’s Guitar, but in a sense anybody with a computer and this device( a Tascam interface to be correct) with a basic microphone and a patch cable can make music in todays day and age. It was so simple plug and play. I used garage band on my mac just for the simple fact that I am lazy and didn’t feel like having to deal with pro tools. So after a short amount of time the studio (we used the church office) we were recording. Companies are now not only creating products for large professional studios but for home and small portable studios. The best thing about all of this is that I have never taken any classes/tutorials but all self taught and if I do say so myself everything has sounded pretty good. Anyways my point being recording is simple and everyone should try it. Take care!
